Blackberry & Apple Pie

Late in June hard buds appeared

Nudging the flowers away

Hundreds of tight green berries

Being thrust to the sunlight each day

At the ends of their branches

Weaving their dances

With wind, rain and sun

nurturing each one

They await the chance of

an old time treat

When they meet up with

Sharp apples and their sweetness

Grapples with the acidity of fruit

All churned together with plenty of sugar

Then a lid of pastry lain

With care, completing the dish

And custard or cream to suit

Soon, once cooked and ready to slice

A special treat to follow the first course of meat

There on the table it catches my eye

My favourite Blackberry and Apple pie!
