THE PLANT AND I

Have you looked closely, the leaves on a plant
manoeuvre for space.
At angles they slant, to peep out beyond their brothers each side
To just glimpse the light and stand out with pride.

A pattern is made.
Is it merely by chance?
Or more likely their place in the great cosmic dance
As they synthesise light
Gaining energy to grow
From the light up above and the earth down below.

Not much difference
From me and from you
As we pull in the energy
For all that we do
An Intricate part of the infinite scene,
A speck on the planet
What is and has been.
